Seven Hills Fellowship

Dear Seven Hills family,

It is hard to believe that Holy Week is already here, beginning today with Palm Sunday! Some of you will know that Palm Sunday is the church’s historic celebration of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, the week of his betrayal, trial, flogging and eventual crucifixion. It was a remarkable occasion because it is the first and only time in his earthly ministry in which Jesus allowed for the corporate, public praise of his kingship. Everywhere else in the gospels Jesus had commanded people to keep his identity hidden so as not to prematurely incite those who opposed him, but now the time has come for him to enter the capital city of his people and to suffer for the salvation of the world.

Traditionally on Palm Sunday, children will enter the church with palm branches like the crowds following Jesus into Jerusalem. So feel free to wave a leaf, or branch from your yard, or simply your hands up in the air during the song, “Hosanna”, which follows our call to worship.

(Feel free to read all readings and prayers out loud as well as sing along with the recordings.)

Call to Worship: Palm Sunday’s Triumphal Entry

6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them.
7 They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them.
8 Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.
9 And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”
10 And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?”
11 And the crowds said, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.”

Matthew 21:6-11

Song: "Hosanna"

HOSANNA

Verse 1
I see the King of glory
Coming on the clouds with fire
The whole earth shakes
The whole earth shakes

Verse 2
I see His love and mercy
Washing over all our sin
The people sing
The people sing

Chorus
Hosanna, hosanna,
Hosanna in the highest!
Hosanna, hosanna,
Hosanna in the highest!

Verse 3
I see a generation
Rising up to take their place
With selfless faith
With selfless faith
I see a near revival
Stirring as we pray and seek
We’re on our knees
We’re on our knees

Bridge
Heal my heart and make it clean
Open up my eyes to the things unseen
Show me how to love like You have loved me
Break my heart for what breaks Yours
Everything I am for Your Kingdom’s cause
As I walk from earth into eternity

In Zechariah’s prophecy of Christ’s entering Jerusalem on a donkey he goes on to prophesy that,

“He shall speak peace to the nations;
his rule shall be from sea to sea,
and from the River to the ends of the earth.” Zechariah 9:10

Prayer: (Take a moment to read these prayers alound together)

Sovereign Lord of all the earth, have mercy on us. Speak peace to China, to Italy, to Spain, to Iran, to France, to the United States of America and everywhere there is currently suffering, fear and need.

Move in the hearts of your people that we might open our hearts, homes, and even our finances to care for the sick, poor and needy among us.

Move in the lost that they might see Jesus and believe in him for salvation.

Move in the leaders of nations to fear the Lord, to repent and seek the true King, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

May the whole earth join in the shouts of praise, saying, “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!”

In the great name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit we pray. Amen.

Closing Scripture: Philippians 4:4-7

(You may raise your hands if you wish.)

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.
5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand;
6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
