Seven Hills Fellowship

Dear church,

During this season of shelter-in-place it is easy to focus on all the bad parts of a pandemic, which is appropriate and necessary, but it is also important to remember that every good thing we have ever experienced in this life has come from God, the good Father, who loved us enough to create us, sustain us, redeem us, change us and who will one day glorify us. This is what James reminds us of in chapter 1, which calls us to worship our good Father today.

(Feel free to read all readings and prayers out loud as well as sing along with the recordings.)

Call to Worship: James 1:16-18

Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

Let us worship now our good Father!

Song: "Good Good Father"

Good Good Father

Verse 1
I’ve heard a thousand stories
Of what they think You’re like
But I’ve heard the tender whispers
Of love in the dead of night
You tell me that You’re pleased
And that I’m never alone

Chorus
You’re a Good Good Father
It’s who You are
It’s who You are
It’s who You are
And I’m loved by You
It’s who I am
It’s who I am
It’s who I am

Verse 2
I’ve seen many searching for answers
Far and wide
But I know we’re all searching for answers
Only You provide
Because You know just what we need
Before we say a word

Bridge
You are perfect in all of Your ways
You are perfect in all of Your ways
You are perfect in all of Your ways to us

Verse 3
Love so undeniable I can hardly speak
Peace so unexplainable I can hardly think
As You call me deeper still
As You call me deeper still
As You call me deeper still
Into love love love

It is true! God gives good gifts! He is a good Father! But he gives us more than gifts, he gives us himself and promises to never leave or forsake those who cling to Christ, his Son. Even in the midst of trials, in the midst of loss and grief we hold on to the promises that Christ has secured for us. Our lives, our labor is not in vain, not useless, not purposeless, they matter. Each of our lives in Christ matter to God. Read the following scriptures aloud!

Responsive Reading: 2 Corinthians 1:20a

“For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding ‘Yes!’” (2 Corinthians 1:20a)

Will God cause our feet to crush sin and Satan? (Gen. 3:15; Rom. 16:20)

Yes, in Christ!

Will the Lord be faithful to the faith-filled for his namesake? (Gen. 15:5; Rom. 4:13)

Yes, in Christ!

Will the Lord bless the work of our hands and remain by our side? (Deut. 2:7; Matt. 28:20)

Yes, in Christ!

Will the Lord guide our steps on earth like Enoch and bring us to himself for all eternity? (Gen. 5:24; 1 Thess. 4:16-17)

Yes, in Christ! For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding ‘Yes!’ Thanks be to God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Amen. (2 Cor. 1:20)

Song: "Psalm 126 (Our Mouths They Were Filled)"

Psalm 126

Verse 1
Our mouths they were filled filled with laughter
Our tongues they were loosed loosed with joy
Restore us O Lord
Restore us O Lord

Chorus
Although we are weeping
Lord help us keep sowing
The seeds of Your kingdom
For the day You will reap them
Your sheaves we will carry
Lord please do not tarry
All those who sow weeping
Will go out with songs of joy

Verse 2
The nations will say He has done great things
The nations will sing songs of joy
Restore us O Lord
Restore us O Lord

Song: "Your Labor is Not in Vain"

Your Labor Is Not In Vain

Verse 1
Your labor is not in vain
Though the ground underneath you
Is cursed and stained
Your planting and reaping are never the same
But your labor is not in vain

Chorus
For I am with you I am with you
I am with you I am with you
For I have called you
Called you by name
Your labor is not in vain

Verse 2
Your labor is not unknown
Though the rocks they cry out
And the sea it may groan
The place of your toil may not seem like a home
But your labor is not unknown

Verse 3
The vineyards you plant will bear frui
The fields will sing out and rejoice with the truth
For all that is old will at last be made new
The vineyards you plant will bear fruit

Verse 4
The houses you labored to build
Will finally with laughter and joy be filled
The serpent that hurts and destroys shall be killed
And all that is broken be healed

Closing Scripture: Hebrews 13:20-21

Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
